Which checkups does a woman need, and how often?
- Pap smear: from age 21, every 3 years if normal; between 30 and 65 it can be combined with an HPV test and spaced to every 5 years. It catches changes in the cervix before they become cancer.
- HPV test: from age 30, alone or together with the Pap smear.
- Sexually transmitted infection tests: every year if you have a new partner or more than one, or whenever there are symptoms.
- Blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol: a yearly blood test from age 40, or earlier with diabetes, excess weight or family history.
- Thyroid: when there is tiredness, weight or cycle changes without explanation; it is more common in women.

What should I bring, and how should I prepare?
