Which blood tests does the clinic run?

At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Pasadena we draw the sample in the clinic and process it through a clinical laboratory. The most requested tests are: complete blood count, blood chemistry, fasting glucose, A1C (glycated hemoglobin), lipid panel (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides), thyroid tests (TSH, T3 and T4), liver and kidney function, vitamin B12, hormone panel, testosterone, PSA for the prostate and sexually transmitted infection tests. If you need a test that is not on the list, ask us: many panels are built around what the physician wants to check.

Do I need to fast?

It depends on the test. Fasting glucose and the lipid panel call for 8 to 12 hours without food; water is fine. A blood count, thyroid, B12 or hormone tests do not require fasting. If you come fasting, try to arrive in the morning; if not, we tell you which tests can be drawn that day and which are better repeated while fasting.

How much does a blood test cost in Pasadena?

The prices we publish are those of our current promotions. The Complete General Checkup costs $99 and includes a general blood test, A1C, a general urine test and a free medical visit. The General Blood Test with Vitamin B12 package costs $99 and includes the B12 injection and a review of your results. For single tests or specific panels, call us and we give you the price before drawing the sample. No health insurance is required, and we accept cash and cards.

When is a blood test worth doing?

• Once a year as a checkup, even if you feel fine.
• If you have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol and are under follow-up.
• If you notice constant tiredness, hair loss, unexplained weight gain or loss, excessive thirst or irregular sleep.
• If it is required for work, school, an immigration process or before surgery.
• If you started a new medication and the physician wants to monitor your liver or kidneys.

How does the visit work?

1. Walk in during our hours: Monday to Sunday, 9 AM to 9 PM.
2. At the front desk, say which test you need or describe your symptoms; if you are unsure, the physician guides you.
3. The sample is drawn in the clinic. The draw takes a few minutes.
4. Most results are ready quickly. We let you know as soon as we have them and, when we draw the sample, we tell you how long your test usually takes.
5. You review the result with the medical team, in Spanish or English, and leave with a plan: repeat, treat or follow up.

What should I bring?

A photo ID, the list of medications you take and, if you have them, previous results to compare. If the test is for a formal process, bring the order or form you were given.

If the result shows an altered thyroid, we follow the case in thyroid testing and treatment. For glucose, blood pressure or cholesterol out of range, care continues in chronic conditions. Men who request PSA or testosterone can complete their checkup in men's health, and the B12 injection is part of IV vitamin therapy.
