Ultrasound shows in real time what is happening inside the body using sound waves, with no radiation and no pain. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Pasadena we do it at the clinic itself, with staff who explain what they see, in Spanish or English.

Which types of ultrasound does the clinic do?

• Abdominal: liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, spleen and kidneys. Ordered for abdominal pain, suspected gallstones or kidney stones, or abnormal liver results.
• Pelvic: uterus and ovaries in women; bladder and prostate in men. Used for pelvic pain, irregular bleeding, cysts or fibroids.
• Pregnancy: confirms the pregnancy, estimates gestational age, checks the heartbeat and the baby's growth and serves as a check during prenatal follow-up.
• Thyroid and soft tissue: studies neck nodules, lumps under the skin or swollen lymph nodes.

If the physician needs a different study, they tell you and guide you on where to get it.

How should I prepare?

It depends on the study. For an abdominal scan, come with 6 to 8 hours of fasting so the gallbladder is full and the bowel has less gas. For pelvic and early pregnancy scans, a full bladder is needed: drink a few glasses of water an hour before and do not urinate until you are done. Thyroid, soft-tissue and late-pregnancy scans need no preparation. Wear comfortable two-piece clothing.

Is ultrasound safe in pregnancy?

Yes. It uses no radiation, unlike X-rays or CT scans, and it is used routinely throughout pregnancy. The gel applied to the skin only helps the waves pass through; it is wiped off when you finish.

How long does it take, and when do I get results?

The study usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. The images are seen on the spot and the medical team reviews them with you at the same visit; if a written report is needed or the study must be shared with another physician, we prepare it and let you know as soon as it is ready.

How much does an ultrasound cost in Pasadena?

The price varies with the area studied; we confirm it by phone before you come. No health insurance is needed, and we accept cash and cards.

Do I need a doctor's order?

It is not required. You can walk in, Monday to Sunday, 9 AM to 9 PM, and the physician decides with you which study fits your symptoms. If you bring an order from another doctor, we follow it as written.
